Hexagram 4 : Childhood

This hexagram symbolises ignorance, as in childhood. It means immature youth, but at the same time representing various things that young people often want to do. The important thing is to be conscious of your immaturity, be humble in everything, and rely on wise elders’ guidance.

It is important to understand the value of spirituality, to be smart but yet not to place too much emphasis on intelligence and knowledge. Be considerate for those around you. When in doubt about your future, or when solving a difficult problem, be humble but have confidence in yourself. Use not just the methods we leaned from our teachers but utilize what we inherited from the universe.

Learning is necessary in order to mature. However, learning is meaningless if it increases your own insecurities, or makes others unhappy. The maturity of a person is in wisdom rather than knowledge.

The world right now emphasizes on academic qualifications. Knowledge is valued more than wisdom, and appearance is more valued than internality. In this situation, there exists the “immature ignorance”.
